BLACKHAWKS ASSIGN DEFENSEMAN JOKIHARJU TO ROCKFORD

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Chicago Blackhawks today announced they have assigned defenseman Henri Jokiharju to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Jokiharju, 19, made his NHL debut this season with the Blackhawks, logging 12 assists in 37 games. He posted his first multi-point effort in his second game with a pair of helpers at St. Louis on Oct. 6, and followed the effort with a three-point contest the following night vs. Toronto. The blueliner concluded his first month of action tied for first among NHL rookie defenseman in scoring with seven points (7a) in 12 games.

The Oulu, Finland native also helped his country to a gold medal at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship earlier this month. He notched five points (2g, 3a) in seven games for Team Finland during the tournament.

Jokiharju last skated with the Blackhawks on Jan. 22 vs. the New York Islanders and most recently picked up a point on Jan. 14 at New Jersey. He was originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the first round (29th overall) of the 2017 National Hockey League Draft.

Chicago Blackhawks chairman, Rocky Wirtz, and Hall of Fame goaltender, Tony Esposito, will be in attendance for a book signing of Wirtz's new release, "The Breakaway: The Inside Story of the Wirtz Family and the Chicago Blackhawks.” Fans are invited to stick around postgame for a fireworks show (presented by LawnCare by Walter) inside the BMO Harris Bank Center. In addition, the first 2,500 fans in attendance Friday will receive a free American Flag, courtesy of BMO Harris Bank.
