Blackhawks Invite Fans To Participate In Playoff "Beard-A-Thon"

The Chicago Blackhawks are inviting all fans to participate in a “Beard-a-thon” during the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs to help raise money for Chicago Blackhawks Charities.

Fans willing to grow a beard during the Blackhawks postseason run, joining in on a tradition among National Hockey League players during the playoffs, can invite their peers to pledge money for each day they maintain it through the website Fans unable to partake in the tradition can still pledge money towards their favorite Blackhawks player, which support Blackhawks charities.

“The Blackhawks are proud to once again have the chance to grow our playoff beards and invite our fans to take part in the tradition while also contributing to the worthy causes that Chicago Blackhawk Charities support,” Blackhawks Senior Director, Market Development and Community Affairs Pete Hassen said.

Starting Thursday, the Blackhawks will be making their first appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2002 when they face off against the Calgary Flames in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals at the United Center at 7:30 P.M. This marks the first time in 13 years Chicago has home-ice advantage in a postseason series.
