Blackhawks promote Bergevin, Maciver and Davidson within Hockey Operations, extend Scotty Bowman

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the team has promoted Marc Bergevin to Assistant General Manager, Norm Maciver to Director of Player Personnel and Kyle Davidson to Hockey Administration Coordinator, and extended the contract of Senior Advisor, Hockey Operations Scotty Bowman.

“As an organization we’re fortunate to have the depth of talent available that allows us to promote from within,” said Vice-President/General Manager Stan Bowman.  “Marc and Norm have combined for more than 40 years of NHL experience, as players, behind the bench and in the front office. Marc possesses an unrivaled understanding of the Chicago Blackhawks professional and amateur scouting operations, as well as those around the league, while Norm has overseen the development of our draft picks and prospects into contributors at the professional level. Both have a comprehensive understanding of the Blackhawks way of doing business in pursuit of our goal of consistent excellence.”

Marc Bergevin is entering his seventh season as a member of the Blackhawks, the last two spent as the club’s Director of Player Personnel. The Montreal native served as an Assistant Coach on Head Coach Joel Quenneville’s staff during the 2008-09 campaign, and spent three years on the Blackhawks scouting staff including as Director of Pro Scouting during the 2007-08 season.

Originally drafted by the Blackhawks in the third round (58th overall) of the 1983 Entry Draft, Bergevin spent 20 seasons in the National Hockey League as a defenseman, collecting 181 points (36G, 145A) in 1,191 games with Chicago (1984-89), the New York Islanders (1989-90), Hartford Whalers (1990-92), Tampa Bay Lightning (1992-95; 2002-03), Detroit Red Wings (1995-96), St. Louis Blues (1996-2001; 2001-02) and Pittsburgh Penguins (2000-01; 2002-03). Bergevin also skated in 80 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests with five different teams, recording 9 points (3G, 6A) and 52 penalty minutes.


Norm Maciver just completed his fourth season with the Blackhawks, and third as the team’s Director Of Player Development. Prior to joining the organization the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native served as an Assistant Coach with the Boston Bruins (2003-06) and the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons (2000-03).

Following a decorated collegiate career at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he was a two-time All-American and finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, Maciver spent 12 seasons as a defenseman in the National Hockey League. He registered 285 points (55G, 230A),  in 500 career regular-season tilts with stops in New York, Hartford, Edmonton, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg and Phoenix, and posted 14 points (3G, 11A) and a +10 plus/minus rating in 56 Stanley Cup Playoffs tilts. Maciver was given the AHL’s Eddie Shore Award as the league’s best defenseman in 1991 and won the International Hockey League’s Turner Cup with the Houston Aeros in 1999.

Kyle Davidson joined the Blackhawks Hockey Operations department for the 2010-11 campaign as a Hockey Analytics Video Analyst, after spending the previous year with the Ottawa Senators. The Sudbury, Ontario, native and graduate of Laurentian University also spent five seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sudbury Wolves.


Scotty Bowman has been a member of 12 Stanley Cup winning teams since 1973, which includes an NHL record nine as a head coach. His most recent championship came in 2010 when the Blackhawks captured the organization’s first Cup since 1961. The Montreal native is also the NHL’s all-time leader with 1,224 regular-season wins and 223 postseason victories. Bowman, who joined the Blackhawks in 2008, has held a position in professional hockey since 1967.
