Week 3 Recap:
In their second straight three game weekend, the IceHogs split a home-and-home series with Illinois Lottery Cup Rival, the Chicago Wolves, and dropped Sunday’s finale with the Milwaukee Admirals 7-3. On Friday, Rockford beat Chicago 3-2 at The BMO Harris Bank Center before losing in Rosemont on Saturday evening 7-3.
-Right wing Spencer Abbott became the first player to register three points in the 2016-17 season
-Abbott reached over 100 career AHL assists after the three-game weekend stretch
-Abbott notched three assists Saturday night and after Week 3 is tied with Mark McNeill as the team’s leading scorer with eight points
-McNeill is on a three game point streak after notching six points (1G, 5A) over the three game weekend
-Abbott leads the IceHogs in goals (four) and McNeill and Ville Pokka lead the team in assists (five)
-Captain Jake Dowell notched his first goal of the season, the game-winning goal, Friday night against Chicago
-Forward Chris DeSousa saw time on the ice for the first time in the 2016-17 season after he missed the IceHogs first seven games due to a wrist injury
-Brandon Mashinter surpassed 600 career professional PIM after Sunday’s contest against the Admirals where he spent 12 minutes in the box
-Rockford’s four-game winning streak ended Saturday night when the Chicago Wolves handed the IceHogs a 7-3 loss
-Prior to Sunday’s contest, Rockford had been undefeated at home and after Week 3, ranked 8th in the AHL when playing at home
-Rockford ends Week 3 tied for 5th in the Central Division with eight points, four wins and four losses
-The IceHogs will spend the next four contests on the road, returning to The BMO Harris Bank Center on Saturday, Nov. 12
Week 3 Hot Hog:
Mark McNeill Center (3GP, 1G, 5A, 6pts, +2)
Center Mark McNeill led the team over the weekend with five assists and notched his second goal of the campaign. The 23-year-old Edmonton, Alberta native chipped in two helpers in Friday’s victory over the Wolves followed by a two assist effort in Chicago in the second game of the home and home series. In the weekend finale, McNeill potted the IceHogs first goal of the game and assisted on Spencer Abbott’s score in the second frame. He also donned the “A” in both Friday and Sunday’s contests at the BMO Harris Bank Center. McNeill is currently on a three game point streak with 1G, 5A during that span.
Wednesday, November 2 at Charlotte Checkers: Game starts at 6 p.m. The IceHogs travel to Charlotte for a midweek two game series with the Checkers at the Bojangles' Coliseum in North Carolina.
Thursday, November 3 at Charlotte Checkers: Face-off is set for 6 p.m. Rockford faces the Checkers in the second of four season meetings. Charlotte makes their first visit to the BMO Harris Bank Center on Nov. 12 and takes on the IceHogs for the fourth and final time on Feb. 18.
Sunday, November 6 at Iowa Wild: Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Rockford visits Iowa for the first of 10 contests. Since the Wild joined the AHL for the 2013-14 season, the IceHogs boast a record of 21-6-1-2 versus their neighbors to the West.
Bud Light Monthly Monday Hog Talk At Vintage 501:
Bud Light Hog Talk’s second segment at Vintage 501 will be on Nov. 7 from 6-7 p.m. The second show will feature forwards Spencer Abbott and Sam Carrick, along with head coach Ted Dent. Vintage 501 is located in downtown Rockford at 501 E. State St. Fans can join Bob Mills and Kevin Peters from 6-7 p.m. on the first Monday of every month throughout the season as they chat with IceHogs players, coaches, and front office members. Take advantage of food and Bud Light specials at Vintage 501. For those unable to attend the show in person, Monday’s show will be available streaming live on WXRX.com. “Bud Light Hog Talk” will also be available on www.icehogs.com following the live show. Fans can access the podcast through the “Audio Highlights” link in the “Multimedia” menu.
